  10. ABOUT 7.0 PLUS UTILITIES
  11. ========================
  12. 7.0  PLUS Utilities is a set of Drop Boxes, Control Panels, and other
  13. utilities which make using System 7.0 a whole lot easier and maybe
  14. even a bit more fun.
  15.  
  16. The PLUS Utilities will be available on Compuserve. The catch is,
  17. I still ask you to register the software by sending a few dollars
  18. ($5-$10), and youﾕll also have to pay Compuserve fees when you
  19. download it. If you send enough to cover not only registration,
  20. but also postage and such costs, I will send you updates to software
  21. you have registered.

  23. REGISTERING 7.0 PLUS UTILITIES
  24. =============================
  25. The entire set can be registered for $29.95 U.S. (thatﾕs a whole 5 CENTS
  26. less than $30). As a registered user, youﾕll get updates to the software,
  27. documentation, and even new software (as long as I donﾕt go into debt
  28. passing this stuff around).

  30. These utilities are for personal use. Any sites, commercial or
  31. otherwise, in which the software is used on several computers, MUST
  32. license the software from me either by sending a few dollars a copy of each
  33. program (is that so much to ask?) or $29.95 for the first three copies of
  34. 7.0 PLUS Utilities, and $20 for every copy thereafter up to 1000. After that,
  35. itﾕs only $12, up to 100 000. Then the PLUS Utilities are $7.00. And after
  36. one million copies, you get one free, plus a gold star. And a big kiss.

  39. There is a total of more than 25 utilities in the package. See the specific
  40. information for the purposes and functions of these utilities. This is
  41. NOT a complete list. There has to be SOME kind of mystery.

  44. (or $35 Canadian) payable to Robert Gibson to the address below. You will
  45. be sent the 7.0 PLUS Utilities disk as soon as possible.

  52. Why 29.95? Well, I figure that a few dollars to register each program that
  53. youﾕll use, and the postage and disk fees to me, add up to somewhere around
  54. there. You ARE getting 25 programs.

  56. All-in-all, I think itﾕs a fair deal. If you donﾕt think so, then download the
  57. utilities yourself from Compuserve. But donﾕt forget that there is still a
  58. registration fee if you use the software.

  60. SUPPORT
  61. ========
  62. Utilities will be given on-line support on Compuserve. E-mail me and I will
  63. give you a response as quickly as I can (that is usually fairly quickly).

  65. I will fix reported bugs as soon as possible, and will relase updated software
  66. in the CIS libraries once the software has been completed. New disks will be
  67. sent out once a sufficient number of updates have been performed. Of course,
  68. there is a limit to the number of updates I can send out. It costs for the disks,
  69. the postage, etc. I think that the first disk and a major update is fair.
  70. After that, Iﾕll have to request postage/disk fees.

  72. DROP ROB･BOXES
  73. ===============
  74. The Drop Rob･Box family is a set of utilities (some of which require
  75. System 7.0 to work) which perform many functions.
  76.  
  77. The following is a list of many (but not all) other current members of
  78. the Drop Rob･Box family. More are being added to the family all the
  79. time.

  81. The utilities which require System 7.0 or higher are marked with an
  82. asterisk (*).
  83.  
  84. TEXTBREAK
  85. ----------
  86. Write messages and other files to be used on-line or on another type of
  87. computer normally (donﾕt worry about hitting return at the end of each
  88. line). Then toss your files (or folders/disks containing the files) into
  89. this Drop Box. It determines the best location in the file to insert a CR
  90. and, optionally, a LF, based on your criteria (number of columns, etc.).
  91. Useful for those who communicate on-line and send messages (probably
  92. everybody reading this).
  93.  
  94. TEXTMERGE *
  95. ----------
  96. Join text files into a single file. Very useful for telecommunicators (like
  97. you) who wish to join several text logs or groups of messages into one
  98. file. All directories dragged into this drop box are scanned, so you can
  99. throw in sets of files, folders or even disks, or any combination of the
  100. three, and all contained TEXT files will be processed.
  101.  
  102. OBLITERATE *
  103. -----------
  104. Delete all files and folders you drop in this application, with an optional
  105. shredding facility to make files totally unrecoverable. All directories
  106. dragged into this drop box are scanned, so you can throw in sets of files,
  107. folders or even disks, or any combination of the three. You no longer have
  108. to go through the pain of selecting Empty Trash all the time. Also keeps
  109. a log of files you have obliterated for a user-specified period of time.
  110.  
  111. BLINDFOLD
  112. ----------
  113. Make files and folders visible or invisible in the Finder. Useful for
  114. hiding private files or cleaning up ugly desktop clutter. Files are
  115. modified through an open file dialog, or in Drop Box mode. All
  116. directories dragged into this Drop Box are scanned, so you can throw
  117. in sets of files, folders or even disks, or any combination of the
  118. three. Depending on your preferences you can even show or hide
  119. entire directories of files.
  120.  
  121. LOCKSMITH
  122. ----------
  123. LockSmith allows you to lock or unlock files, folders, and disks quickly
  124. and easily without the trouble of the Finder's Get Info windows. Locked
  125. files and disks cannot be modified until they are unlocked. No locked
  126. item can be renamed or deleted until it is unlocked. When used under
  127. System 7.0 or higher in Drop Box mode, you can modify entire groups of
  128. items.

  130. DEFLATE
  131. --------
  132. Strip all help resources from selected files to save memory and disk space.
  133.  
  134. ROUTER *
  135. -------
  136. Drop files into this program and re-route them to other locations. For
  137. example, drop a text file in and move it to a Text Files folder. Or drop a
  138. Word document into a Word docs folder. Or a folder or disk containing
  139. text files, word files, and pict files, and move them to their own separate
  140. directories on Routerﾕs disk.

  144. Verify, Split, Splice, the Strip Series (several utilities), Order, Segment,
  145. DeskMessage, etc.

  147. CONTROL PANELS
  148. ===============
  149. Control Panels are small programs which somehow modify your System
  150. or Finder. Although they are Control Panels, these do not have to be
  151. in the Control Panels folder to function properly. All 7.0 PLUS Utilities
  152. Control Panels require System 7.0 or higher.
  153.  
  154. PINK SLIP
  155. ---------
  156. Add a Quit menu item to the Finder for use in those memory-intense
  157. situations. You can also remove it if you don't like it any more.
  158. Does the trick described on p. 266 of Feb/92 MacUser a bit more
  159. elegantly and without requiring you to hone ﾒyour ResEdit skills".
  160. Also lets you quit from the Finder without modifying anything.
  161.  
  162. WAIT!
  163. -----
  164. Change the Finder's rename delay through this Control Panel without
  165. having to restart your machine. The rename delay is the amount of
  166. time the Finder waits after you have clicked on a fileﾕs name before
  167. allowing you to edit it.

  169. LINK
  170. ----
  171. Link documents and applications. For example, double-clicking on a generic
  172. text file can open up MS Word.
  173.  
  174. KEYCHAIN
  175. ---------
  176. Modify command-key equivalents for many of the Finderﾕs menus.
